Workshop Mechanical Engineer Opportunity

A well-established marine engineering and ship repair organisation is looking to recruit experienced Mechanical Engineers to join their skilled workforce at their Aberdeen shipyard facility.

Due to continued growth and long-term contracts, this is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and stable engineering environment supporting offshore, marine and heavy industrial vessels.

The Role

Working within a busy dry dock and ship repair yard, the Mechanical Engineer will support mechanical maintenance, repair and installation work across a range of vessels and marine equipment.

You will work closely with experienced engineering teams carrying out maintenance, troubleshooting and mechanical repair activities within the shipyard environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out mechanical repair and maintenance work on vessels and marine equipment

  • Support ship repair and overhaul projects within a dry dock environment

  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation

  • Assist with installation and replacement of mechanical components and systems

  • Work safely within a heavy engineering and shipyard environment

  • Collaborate with foremen, supervisors and wider engineering teams

Requirements:

  • Mechanical engineering or heavy engineering experience.

  • Experience working within shipyards, marine engineering, offshore, fabrication, or similar heavy industrial environments is beneficial

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding engineering environment

  • Willingness to work overtime and weekend shifts when required

  • Strong attitude towards health and safety

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Right to work in the UK

A formal engineering degree is not required.

Key Accountabilities

• Health & Safety implementation. • Management and development of the engineering team. • Managing all aspects of on-site engineering, from design checks, take offs,

setting out and quality control throughout project lifecycle. • Producing, maintaining and amending site documents. • Writing and preparing site paperwork including construction phase plans,

works package plans, method statements, task briefings, risk assessments and site permits.

• Managing the production of site quality documents e.g. ITPs and quality checklists etc.

• Attending pre-start and contract meetings. • Managing sub-contractors (programme and compliance). • Involvement in delivery of multiple sites at any one time (where appropriate). • Client liaison which involves providing reports and progress meetings. • Document control via Story Contracting web-based portal. • Keeping contemporaneous records of project costs within your control.

Enablers to the role

• Competent in carrying out and managing all aspects of site setting out, engineering and surveying.

• Working knowledge of IT systems, specifically Microsoft Office suite. • Preferred working knowledge of AutoCAD (training can be provided). • SMSTS 5 Day Site Safety certified, preferred but not essential (training can be

provided). • Excellent communication skills. • Proficient in creating WPP, TB, Permit to Dig, ITPs. • TWS certification, preferred but not essential. • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team. • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders at all levels. • Willingness to work weekends, shift work and work away from home.

Essentials for the role

• Valid CSCS card. • Full driving licence. • Full First Aid certified. • Qualified to degree level in Civil Engineering or HNC / HND. • Model the right behaviours and foster a culture aligned with Story’s values and
