QHSE Director - Drilling Background
Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated QHSE Director with a strong background in offshore drilling to lead and elevate the quality, health, safety, and environmental standards in our organization.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring compliance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and promoting a safe, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable working environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic development, implementation, and monitoring of the QHSE management system, policies, and procedures with a keen focus on offshore drilling operations.
- Ensure compliance with local and international regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies across all drilling activities.
- Collaborate with leadership to define and drive the organization’s health and safety culture, prioritizing employee well-being and environmental stewardship.
- Provide expert guidance on risk management related to operational safety, process safety, and environmental impact.
- Drive initiatives to evaluate and continuously improve QHSE performance metrics within the organization.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventative action planning. Ensure that lessons learned are shared and implemented organization-wide.
- Partner with operational teams to identify hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement mitigations specific to offshore drilling operations.
- Drive training programs to support employee education and awareness in QHSE matters, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all staff.
- Build strong relationships with regulators, contractors, and key stakeholders to foster an environment of trust and transparency.
- Regularly review and audit offshore site practices to align with strategic safety and environmental goals.
Qualifications
- Essential: 15 years of experience within offshore drilling operations in a QHSE role
- 5+ years of leadership experience at the Director level
- Comprehensive knowledge of international drilling standards, such as API, ISO, and other recognised standards.
- Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental challenges unique to the offshore drilling sector and experience in mitigating these risks effectively.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to collaborate with teams across diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IADC WellSharp, etc.) are a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain a culture of continuous improvement and proactive safety engagement.
- Proven expertise in leading incident investigations, audits, and root cause analyses.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to travel to offshore sites and other locations as needed.
